José Luis Gómez

Conductor

The Venezuelan-born, Spanish conductor José Luis Gomez began his musical career as a violinist and was catapulted to international attention when he won First Prize at the International Sir Georg Solti Conductor’s Competition in Frankfurt in September 2010, securing a sensational and rare unanimous decision from the jury.

Gomez’s electrifying energy, talent and creativity earned him immediate acclaim from the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra where he was appointed to the position of Assistant Conductor, a post created especially for him by Paavo Järvi and the orchestra directly upon the conclusion of the competition.

In 2016, Gomez was named Music Director of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra.

Cameron Renshaw

Cello

Described by NPR as “so exuberant… a born entertainer,” 14-year-old cellist Cameron Renshaw has received top prizes at international competitions, including the First Great Award at the Vienna and the Manhattan International Music Competitions. He performed as a soloist with ten orchestras across the United States and internationally, making his orchestral debut with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra at age 8 and performed in some of the world’s greatest concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, Mozarteum Salzburg, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, and the Romanian Athenaeum. Renshaw has been featured on local and national media, including The Ellen Show, NPR’s From the Top, and NPR’s Tiny Desk. Renshaw takes private lessons at Grand Valley State University and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
