Born and raised in Mexico, Sofía Salazar Arguelles began her musical journey through programs such as Esperanza Azteca and the Conservatory of Puebla. In 2016, she moved to the U.S. to further her studies and career in music.


She has performed with ensembles including Crossroad Strings, the UTSA Orchestra, UTSA String Band, often as principal cellist and soloist. Sofía has participated in master classes with acclaimed cellists such as Santiago Valencia, Tina Guo, Emilio Colón, and others. She earned two Bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Music Performance, studying under cellist Yi Qun Xu.


Sofía was awarded the TOSA Fellowship to perform in Madama Butterfly and has served as Operations Assistant for the 210 CMI Summer Festival (2024 & 2025), where she contributed to the logistics and execution of the festival’s events, handling from artist coordination to stage management. She currently performs with the Alamo Viva Symphony and serves as The Orchestra San Antonio's Ascend Teaching Artist & Assistant Site Coordinator.
