A lifelong advocate for the arts, Kara Geren’s passion for theatre, dance, and music began at an early age and has guided her professional journey.

At The Orchestra San Antonio, Kara is dedicated to fostering innovative systems and strategic initiatives that expand access to the arts, nurture young talent, and build lasting connections between artists and audiences. In her role, Kara works closely with the artistic, educational, and administrative teams to align vision with execution, ensuring that The Orchestra San Antonio continues to grow as a leader in performance, education, and community engagement. She is particularly committed to ensuring that students from underserved communities have pathways to explore their creativity and pursue opportunities in the performing arts.

She earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Theatre and in Communication & Information Sciences from The University of Alabama, where she specialized in stage management and nonprofit communication. Building on that foundation, she pursued advanced training that bridged artistry with business leadership, completing both a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Arts Management. This unique combination equips Kara with the tools to unite creative vision with sustainable strategy.

Her career has included work with a variety of organizations across the country, including The Walt Disney Company, Sunshine Projects Foundation, Fredericksburg Theatre Company, SummerTide Theatre, Tuscaloosa Children’s Theatre, McMurry University, Theatre Tuscaloosa, and The University of Alabama Department of Theatre and Dance. These diverse experiences have strengthened her expertise in program development, operational leadership, audience engagement, and nonprofit management.

Beyond her professional work, Kara continues to be an enthusiastic supporter of the arts. She enjoys attending local performances and discovering new corners of San Antonio with her husband, Tristen, and their two pets, Stumpy and Figaro.
